An example of a research that used the mix approach in comparative research is Shorter and Tilly's study which was termed "Strikes in France". The two purposes of their study was exam the common opinions relating to the reasons why combined action, particularly strikes were occurring and furthermore to map the past and choice of strikes in a particular nation. In order to investigate the first goal they had to use a quantitative comparative approach because the emphasis was on testing competing theories. And for the second goal they had to apply the qualitative comparative approach because they were concerned with analysing a specific case.
